Debbie Matenopoulos, who represents Gen-X on the ABC daytime talk show “The View,” has been yanked from the program. The show’s veteran hostess, Barbara Walters, is expected to make an announcement to that fact — in politer terms — on Wednesday’s show. Matenopoulos’ participation on “The View” (which also stars Joy Behar, Meredith Vieira and Star Jones) had been reduced in recent weeks, and since the show’s debut in August 1997 she had been the target of merciless lampooning on “Saturday Night Live,” which depicted her as an airhead. Since last week stories about her removal have been surfacing, after she told Village Voice columnist Michael Musto she’d been axed. Barbara Walters is also expected to say that Debbie “could return to the show as an occasional contributor,” says the New York Post. ABC sources reportedly said Debbie did not relate well with the other hostesses on the show, and viewers did not relate to her, either.
