The Office star Jenna Fischer, who hurt her back in a fall last week, says she’s on the road to recovery – and is grateful to fans for their get-well wishes.

“I am very touched by the outpouring of support from my fans,” Fischer, 33, tells PEOPLE. “My friends and family and everyone at NBC are taking very good care of me. I’m on the mend. I couldn’t dream of a better network of support.”

Fischer fell down a flight of stairs at New York City restaurant Buddakan on May 14 during a TV upfront party for The Office, fracturing four bones in her lower back. (Fischer plays receptionist Pam Beesly on the NBC hit).

Fischer’s friend and costar Angela Kinsey immediately joined her at St. Vincent’s Hospital, followed by Fischer’s husband, writer-director James Gunn, who flew in from L.A., her rep says.

Fans have posted dozens of get-well messages for Fischer on her MySpace page. Says one: “The accident you had sounds awful, and I hope you know tons of your fans are wishing for you to have a speedy and painless recovery. You’ll be in my thoughts!”

Fischer’s rep has said the actress is expected to be fully recovered when the show starts filming its fourth season this summer.
