Silverman Published on June 15, 1998 12:00 AM Share Tweet Pin Email Jim Carrey’s career might be soaring (thanks in large part to his role in 2000’s No. 1 movie, “Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas), but his romance with Renée Zellweger nose-dived, reports PEOPLE, which looked into the breakup. “I thought they were the perfect couple,” Carrey pal Laugh Factory comedy club owner Jamie Masada told the magazine. As for how Carrey, 38, is faring, Masada describes him as “all right. I mean, he’s hurt. But who doesn’t come out of (a relationship) and doesn’t get hurt?” It remains unclear as to what went wrong between the two, who met in 1999 on the set of “Me, Myself & Irene.” “They just wanted different things,” a rep for Zellweger, 31, told PEOPLE. “Grinch” director Ron Howard, who’s been in touch with Carrey since the split, says that the dual strains of work and fame are hard on relationships. “In this case, the media attention just heightened the pressure.”
