After the final rose has been awarded, things can get very uncomfortable

The Bachelor franchise’s After the Final Rose special always gets a little weird: It’s the first time the star and his or her final rose recipient are seen together in public after the show, and it’s the first time the star sees the person he or she turned down since filming wrapped.

So yeah, things can get uncomfortable. And some moments are more awkward than others – here are a few that take the cake.

1. When Chris Harrison couldn’t stop asking about Jordan Rodgers’ brother.
When Rodgers stepped out of that limo on the first night of JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette, we may not have known much about him, but we did know all about who he was related to: He’s the brother of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. His famous sibling was a topic of conversation throughout the season, all the way into the last minutes of After the Final Rose, when Harrison continued to ask if Fletcher had met Rodgers’ brother, how it felt that she hadn’t, and if he’d come to the wedding. Awkward for everyone involved.

2. When Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson were already broken up – and got re-engaged.
Bachelor nation let out a collective groan when Flajnik proposed to the season’s most-hated contestant, Robertson. And it turned out, all it took was tuning into the show himself for Flajnik to see Robertson for who she really was – and he revealed that after the show stopped taping, they were basically broken up. On After the Final Rose, however, they got back together and pledged to start again. A noble effort, but it didn’t last much longer: They broke up, for good, within months.

3. When the Bachelor producers brought Ben Higgins’ pastor to the taping.
We all knew Higgins and his final rose recipient, Lauren Bushnell, were head over heels for one another from the get-go, and the Bachelor producers were so convinced of their love that they decided to fly out Ben’s hometown pastor to perform a wedding on the spot. Sadly for excited viewers, they gently turned down the offer – but don’t worry, we imagine we’ll see their nuptials on TV in the future.

4. When Nick Viall told everyone that he and Andi Dorfman had sex.
Let’s face it: Getting your heart broken in general is tough, and having it happen on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, in front of the entire world, is even worse. Viall didn’t handle his rejection from Dorfman well, asking her on After the Final Rose why she “made love” with him if she wasn’t in love with him, which Dorfman called a “below the belt” hit. Truth.

5. When Brad Womack tried to defend his decision to send both of his final women home.
Womack got a lot of flack when he decided to break up with both of his final two, DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft, despite the fact that he had flown Pappas’ father out to ask for permission to marry her and picked out a ring. Just try not to avert your eyes as he tries to justify his controversial choice. Just try.

6. When Jason Mesnick dumped Melissa Rycroft for Molly Malaney.
Of course, we had to save the most shocking After the Final Rose moment for last. Months after he proposed to Rycroft, Mesnick admitted to Harrison that he couldn’t stop thinking about Malaney, and he felt he needed to break things off with Rycroft, who, understandably, was really pissed. Though their breakup was painful to watch, things worked out for the best: Mesnick and Malaney have been married since 2010 and have two children.

Bachelor in Paradise premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
