Scot Pankey should give himself an A+ for this one.

The theater teacher at A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School in Dallas shows he’s got all the right moves in this hilarious video, in which he dances with his students to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s hit “Uptown Funk.”

The video has gone viral, and for good reason. The whole thing was shot in a single take. And they weren’t just goofing around – it turns out this was a class project.

“I heard the song before Christmas and fell in love with it,” Pankey tells the Dallas Morning News. “We are a project-based school You give the students a project, put them in teams, and they have to come up with solutions. They had three weeks to work on it, then present as a group what they learned.”

But Pankey couldn’t resist putting his own dancing shoes on along with the students. “I told them, ‘I am not a dancer, but I’d love to do this and go on this journey with you, and we can all learn from it and have a good time,’ ” he says.

A couple hundred thousand YouTube views later, it’s safe to say everyone should be getting good grades on this one.

“We had a great time,” says Pankey. “I am overwhelmed by the response. I am honored. It’s all been very positive.”

On Thursday evening, Mars Tweeted his own reply. “I cried at the end. I’m still a thug though,” he writes. “Thank you to everyone involved in making this video.”
