Most 10-year-olds would be appropriately terrified by being within any distance of a 13-foot, 800-pound alligator. Not Ella.
Ella, who’s already the Trophy Game Records of the World Huntress of the Year 2014, bagged the gator in Texas’s Guadalupe River in Victoria County. Per Texas law, her guide, Ryan Longer, baited and hooked the gator near the bank. Ella took her shot from the opposite side and hit the gator between the eyes on the first shot.
Ella then took two “insurance shots,” the second of which with her original crossbow bolt: “She Robin Hood’ed it,” Longer told the Victoria Advocate.
“I was happy,” Ella added to the paper. “I was so excited.”
The kill puts Ella in line to receive the Huntress of the Year award for the second year running, but her gator puts her in line for a bigger honor: It’s the biggest in Trophy Game Records of the World’s database, kept for about 30 years.
“I was more nervous than her before the shot,” Ella’s father Tony told the Advocate. “She has nerves of steel before the shot. She’s just gifted like that, I guess.”
