Taylor Swift Explains the Significance of Red
The color in her album's title represents "passion and love and affection" as well as "jealousy and anger and frustration"
Taylor Swift‘s new album may be a red-hot success, but its songs reflect plenty of heartache and sorrow.
In fact, the singer says Red‘s title track is about “this relationship that I had that was, like, the worst thing ever and the best thing ever at the same time.”
“I was writing this song and I was thinking about correlating the colors to the different feelings I went through,” she reveals during a performance at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, Calif., for an episode of VH1 Storytellers. (Watch a clip below!)
And red turns out to be one complicated color.
“You have the great part of red, like the red emotions that are daring and bold and passion and love and affection. And then you have on the other side of the spectrum, jealousy and anger and frustration and you didn’t call me back and I need space,” she explains, before adding with a faux teary huff, “I’m fine.”
