Taylor Swift Donates $50,000 to Young Fan Battling Cancer: 'Let's Focus on Getting You Better'

You’re going to want to grab a tissue for this.
After 11-year-old Naomi Oakes found out at the end of June that she’d been diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia she was determined to fight it, and she chose a tune by her favorite singer – Taylor Swift – as her theme song: “Bad Blood.”
On July 5, her loved ones posted a video (above) on YouTube telling Naomi’s story and revealing the fact that because her aggressive treatment involves her being hospitalized for six to nine months, she will not be able to attend Swift’s concert in Phoenix, Arizona, on Aug 18. The video asked for people to help get a message to Swift and ask her to post a #TeamNaomi message on Instagram.
Of course the “Shake It Off” singer went one better. Two days after the video was posted, Swift (who revealed in April that her mom was battling cancer) made a generous donation on a Go Fund Me page set up by Naomi’s uncle to raise money for her medical expenses.

She donated $50,000, which far exceeded the family’s initial goal, and left a message for her fan. “To the beautiful and brave Naomi,” she wrote. “I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts. Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
On Tuesday, Naomi’s uncle posted a video of his niece’s emotional reaction to Swift’s donation and message.
“I can barely breathe,” Naomi gasped. “I seriously think I’m going to pass out right now.”
