Has the romance cooled between Susan Sarandon and Jonathan Bricklin?

According to the New York Post, the pair split while shooting the new AOL documentary series Connected.

But Bricklin tells PEOPLE their relationship is complicated.

“Susan and I have a lot of respect and great admiration for each other,” Bricklin, 37, says of the Oscar-winning actress, 68. “It’s impossible to concisely characterize our relationship, other than to say that it continues to evolve in new and unexpected ways. She supported my decision to be a part of AOL’s Connected, and making this series about my life has brought up real and somewhat unexplored issues, but it didn’t break us up.”

The documentary series, produced by Morgan Spurlock, features Bricklin as one of six New Yorkers who are given cameras to film their lives for six months.

Sarandon – who is an investor in SPiN, a Ping-Pong franchise partially owned by Bricklin – makes frequent appearances on the show, which launches March 31.
