CBS announced yesterday that it will air its upcoming “Survivor: The Australian Outback” series on Thursday nights at 8, which is being perceived as a power move against NBC’s long-running ratings champ “Friends.” Whether the maneuver will pay off remains to be seen. The new “Survivor” season, which kicks off on Jan. 28 after Super Bowl XXXV, will also be seen on Wednesday nights (March 14 and March 21) late in the 10-week run of the series, when NCAA “March Madness” basketball games are scheduled to take place on Thursday nights. As currently planned, the 14th and final episode of the series will air on April 26 — the first night of May sweeps. Speaking of the Super Bowl, Aerosmith and ‘N Sync will headline the halftime show, it was also announced yesterday.
