"I am so excited to be here," Mischa Barton said upon arriving in Sydney, and with good reason. As a guest of Aussie retailer David Jones last week, Barton got VIP treatment for herself and her family, including front-row seats (with sister Hania) to the department store's runway show, a yacht trip around Sydney Harbour and a private jet for the hour-long trek to Melbourne.

In Sydney, Barton caught the opening night of Cirque du Soleil's Varekai (left), and the next day got down to work. She filmed a commercial for local celebrity magazine Famous at Altona, a private mansion that's hosted such A-listers as Naomi Watts, Bono and Heath Ledger (at a cost of AU$40,000 a week).

Who knew Nick Lachey was into opera? While Down Under promoting his album What's Left of Me, the pop singer fit in a visit to Sydney's famous Opera House and took in the panoramic views of the Harbour. He also met some of the more eclectic locals (inset) while announcing the nominees for the Australia Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

Canadian Nelly Furtado dipped Down Under to light up the red carpet for the David Jones fashion show, but was all business by the next morning. She woke up at the crack of dawn to perform her hit "Promiscuous" and "Man Eater" for Sydney's Channel 7 Sunrise Concert Series (inset).

Hugh Jackman has been making waves onstage and off in his native country. The Boy from Oz star recently spent a day playing with his family on one of Sydney's famous beaches before touring Australia with his Tony Award-winning musical. And his fans are happy to have him home – a Herald Sun critic called the X-Men actor "almost edible."

Kate Hudson makes a snap judgment with fans at the Melbourne premiere of You, Me and Dupree. ''I guess I just fit in with the whole Aussie thing," Hudson – who made the visit before announcing her split from husband Chris Robinson – told the Sunday Herald Sun. While in Melbourne (inset), she and costar Owen Wilson tested Australia's second largest city's culinary reputation, cycled along St Kilda's foreshore and took a dip in the bay.

During Hudson's first visit to Sydney, she let her Dupree costar Wilson be her guide. "He showed me Bondi Beach, Tamarama, some breakfast spots, dinner," she told reporters at their premiere. "I love it." And Hudson won't have to wait too long to rekindle her love affair with Australia: She's due to return to the continent in October to begin filming her next project, Fool's Gold, with Matthew McConaughey.
