Jared Fogle became a household name following his 245-lb. weight loss that he attributed to eating Subway sandwiches and incorporating walking into his daily routine. The impressive transformation convinced the fast food chain to bring on the Indiana native as a spokesperson; this led to nearly two decades' worth of TV spots and ad campaigns, as well as a permanent place in pop culture history. "I was reborn in every sense of the word," he said in a 1999 interview. "Subway helped save my life and start over. I can't ever repay that."

Fogle's partnership with Subway undoubtedly opened up opportunities, including the launch of the Jared Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about childhood obesity. Despite the success, Fogle struggled with keeping his weight in check over the years. In 2010, he spoke with PEOPLE about his battle. "I thought, 'Wow, is this right?'" he told PEOPLE of learning he was up from 190 to 231 lbs. in 2010. Nonetheless, Fogle stuck with Subway as the company hired more spokespeople.

In July, authorities raided Fogle's home and removed electronics, following the arrest of former Jared Foundation Director Russell Taylor in May; the ex-employee was charged with multiple counts related to child pornography. The FBI's raid of Fogle's home put the brakes on his relationship with Subway. "Subway and Jared Fogle have mutually agreed to suspend their relationship due to the current investigation," the company said in a statement. "Both Jared and Subway agree that this was the appropriate step to take."
