Stone Works the Crowd

Sharon Stone took on the role of celebrity auctioneer and helped raise a record amount for an abused women’s shelter this weekend. The star was one of the auctioneers who helped sell dozens of pieces of donated art to raise money for Abuse Counseling and Treatment Inc. in Ft. Myers, Fla. She egged on the crowd of about 1,400 to spend generously. “Don’t make me have a little actress fit up here,” she said. “I’m very good at them, you know.” Her appearance was a major reason for the large turnout, with many showing up in tuxedos and evening gowns. The event raised more than $250,000, nearly twice as much as last year’s auction.
