Stephen King released the second installment of his online serial novel “The Plant” yesterday — and is now considering a special deal to faithful readers. So far, he’s been charging only $1 per installment, with 76% of those who’ve downloaded King’s 5,000-word chapters showing good faith by paying for them, reports the Associated Press. But now King is thinking of making some of the future installments as long as 35,000 words, for which he might charge $2.50 per chapter, says a spokesperson for the author. Now comes the bonus: King is thinking about giving away the final installment. He should be able to afford it, given that a rep from Amazon.com told AP that some avid fans of King have been paying him up to $10 and $20 — rather than just a buck — for the current installments.
