On wearing makeup: "I feel more like myself without makeup. But I just love a fierce brow. They've always been bushy, and that's fine."
On loving herself: "Regardless of how much melanin we have, or how many pimples, or how curly or straight our hair is, it's really about what we have inside of us that makes us who we are. Sometimes I'll look at myself and be like, 'Dang, girl, you got a lot of stretch marks.' But then I'm like, 'That's just the road map of my strength.' "
On her new glow: "Well, I did just have a baby in August! I have to say, you're getting me at a really good time. I'm just getting to a place where I kind of recognize myself again."
On having bad skin as a teen: "Going through adolescence on-camera [My Girl] and having an entire industry disapprove of what you look like, that was very informative and part of why I had to pull back from show business. It became a very heavy burden."
Her must-have beauty product: "Lip balm. To the point where sometimes I'm an addict. I have it in almost every bag."
Her favorite feature: "I really like my nose. It's got kind of a Roman bump in it. It looks like I have been scrapping in the back of a pub or I can also be on a coin."
Her beauty inspiration: "My mother just turned 80, and she still turns heads in the street. She has done nothing to her face — there is something incredibly noble and beautiful about that."
Maintaining her famously curly hair: "I use a lot of coconut oil. I also play around with color. I have been going gray since I was 21. I don't see it as a bad thing. If I wasn't an actress, I would go full-on Bonnie Raitt."
