Stars Rally Around Sign

Debbie Reynolds has joined the crusade to keep the landmark H-O-L-L-Y-W-O-O-D sign looming above the nation’s entertainment capital. “It’s just a lot of wood and tin. You have to look after these things,” the movie star said Thursday as she helped the Hollywood Historic Trust announce that the famous 50-foot letters were available for corporate adoption at $100,000 a year. It’s part of “Extreme Shopping: Hollywood” to be aired on cable TV’s QVC home shopping network Jan. 22 and Jan. 23. Corporate sponsors won’t be able to affix logos to the sign but can use it in advertisements.

  • QVC viewers can also adopt a celebrity star along the Walk of Fame during the special Hollywood-themed program. For $250 viewers will be able to pay tribute to their favorite celebrities with proceeds going to benefit maintenance of the Walk of Fame. (This week Bob Newhart had his star added to the sidewalk.)
