The Show Must Go On: Stars Who Stayed on Stage After Getting Hurt
The One Direction singer found his night going in the wrong direction (sorry) when he took a spill during the band's July 2015 stop on their On the Road Again tour in San Diego, when the microphone stand that he was dragging got caught on something and caused him to lose his balance. Thankfully, Styles didn't hurt himself – in fact fans could hear him laughing about his accident throughout the rest of the song.
We've all been told not to run near the pool, but it turns out we should've been warned about dancing as well! Lovato learned that lesson the hard way after she slipped and fell during a poolside performance of her single, "Cool for the Summer." Luckily, the singer was totally unfazed by her accident, and after hopping back up onto her towering heels, jumped into the water. Later, Lovato made fun of herself by posting a video of the slip on Instagram with the caption "#NOTCoolFortheSummer."
The rapper/mogul almost saw his Bad Boy reunion go south when he fell through a hole in the stage while performing at the 2015 BET Awards. Still, you can't keep a bad boy down for long, and Diddy quickly popped back up and kept dancing along with the rest of us. He was even willing to laugh at his misstep, and admitted on Instagram that the footage makes him "crack up every time I see this."
Rock stars are often described as being "hardcore," but nobody truly embodies that term quite like Grohl. When he fell off of the stage and broke his leg at a June 2015 Foo Fighters show in Gothenberg, Sweden, the rocker only disappeared long enough to receive medical attention backstage … and then promptly returned to finish out the show.
Pro tip for musicians everywhere: watch where you're going. It's a lesson 5 Seconds of Summer guitarist Clifford learned the hard way after walking into some pyrotechnics during the band's June 2015 show at London's Wembley Arena. Though his face and hand were burned too badly for him to keep playing, he was back on stage the next night – though he did ask fans to not to take any pictures of him until he healed.
The Edge didn't quite find what he was looking for – namely, somewhere stable to put his foot – during a May 2015 U2 concert in Vancouver, when he walked right off, yes, the edge of the stage and fell into the audience. Luckily, he had a sense of humor about the event, joking he "didn't see the edge!" on Instagram.
Bieber might have strong bones, but he didn't have a strong enough stomach to make it through a September 2012 show in Glendale, Arizona, after the milk that he drank beforehand made him throw up onstage. A quick cleanup later, however, he was back onstage to finish his set – and something tells us all of the Belibers in attendance didn't mind one bit.
It was Iglesias vs. the machines during one of his May 2015 concerts in Tijuana, Mexico, after a drone that was taking video of the crowd cut the singer's hand right open. Though Iglesias was told to end the show immediately, he continued to sing for another 30 minutes, while his hand bled out, so we assume fans will never doubt how much their idol cares about them ever again.
Clearly, Madonna should have listened to Edna Mode. The pop legend took a painful-looking tumble during her performance at the February 2015 BRIT Awards after one of her backup dancers pulled on her cape. Though she was a little bruised, she hopped back up and wrapped her number (but we bet she'll think twice before rocking another cape).
Unlike the other performers on this list, Miguel wasn't actually the one who got injured during his number at the May 2013 Billboard Music Awards … a fan was. After the R&B crooner misjudged a jump from one stage to another, he landed on an innocent concertgoer's head. Luckily, she was okay, Miguel was able to finish his performance and the two got to meet backstage, presumably so the singer could apologize profusely.
The Tony Awards are known for their show-stopping production numbers, but somehow we don't think getting hit with a set was quite what Michaels expected. The rock star was clipped by some scenery during the end of his appearance in the June 2009 show, and was knocked to the ground. Though he did manage to hop back up and finish his bit, Michaels had to miss the rest of the awards in order to get checked out at the hospital.
