Spring's Hottest Bodies
To play lingerie-loving Gabrielle Solis on Desperate Housewives, Eva Longoria relies on "my good genes and the magic of television." Among her genetic blessings: a fast metabolism. Says costar Christine Estabrook, "Eva is the only (Housewife) I ever see eat." And turning 30 in March hasn't slowed her down. Longoria celebrated her milestone birthday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where she wore a teeny bikini and, she says, "had lots of margaritas."
Nicole Richie, 23, has shed more than former best friend Paris Hilton. The Simple Life star has slimmed down with the help of trainer Adam Irnster. "I can't concentrate on lifting weights or pushups," she says. "I have to have fun, so he puts me on this fake surfboard" – a balance-training device called an Indo Board – "that I fall off of all the time."
CHAD MICHAEL MURRAY
One Tree Hill heartthrob Chad Michael Murray, 23, reveals a big-screen-worthy body in his movie House of Wax. The former high-school football star (who married his Hill costar Sophia Bush, 22, on April 16) stays in shape with three-hour gym workouts. "I'm like my own trainer," he says. "I do a full circuit workout" that includes lifting weights and running on a treadmill.
Although she calls herself "the last person on the planet eating carbohydrates," the Hope and Faith and Live with Regis and Kelly star looks lean while chilling in Miami. The busy mom of three, 33, has said she doesn't work out and that she has no specific diet plan: "We tend to eat whatever falls from the high chair," she says of herself and husband Mark Consuelos.
Her new line of swimwear proves that "you don't have to be 19 years old and weigh 85 lbs. to look good," says Elizabeth Hurley. Of course, the 39-year-old actress (in St. Barts) barely looks her age. But being a mom to son Damian, 3, helps keep her in bikini-ready form. "Most mothers have good arms because you cart children around nonstop," she says.
Wife Reese Witherspoon is known for her iron-willed workout discipline, but Ryan Phillippe is no slouch when it comes to staying fit – as evidenced by his six-pack abs (on display in Venice Beach, Calif.). Athletics are important to the 30-year-old actor, who stars in the new drama Crash. He has a black belt in tae kwon do and has said, "I almost gave up acting to pursue snowboarding."
Before the Golden Globes in February, Nicollette Sheridan, 41, began amping up her workout regimen. "I'm on a mission," the Desperate Housewives actress told PEOPLE at the time, "(to) shed this 10 lbs. I have packed on." Jogging on the beach in Malibu earlier this month, she certainly looks like she's achieved her goal.
ANNA NICOLE SMITH
Anna Nicole Smith, 36, credits her 69-lb. weight loss last year to TrimSpa, the diet drug for which she's a paid spokesperson. But her sleek physique on an Australian beach recently shows that she's also exercising. In November, she explained her wobbliness at the American Music Awards by saying, "I've been working out and I'm so sore!"
Look out, Paris! Rod Stewart's model daughter, who's in talks to costar in the next season of The Simple Life, could give pal Hilton a run for her money in the leggy-blonde department. Stewart, 22 (in Miami), inherited her mom Alana Stewart's 5'9", size-6 body – and fashion sense. "She has such great taste and style," says Alana, "that now I borrow her things."
Matthew McConaughey's ex, Sandra Bullock, once said, "Matthew looks gorgeous naked. He should be naked as much as possible until things start falling." Girlfriend Penelope Cruz can thank trainer Gunnar Peterson for whipping McConaughey, 35, into shape: To physically prepare for Sahara, he put the actor through a regimen that included weightlifting and rope climbing.
The former Bend It Like Beckham beanpole calls herself a "lazy cow," but to play Guinevere in last year's King Arthur, Knightley, 20, worked out for two hours, four times a week and studied sword fighting, horseback riding and archery. Now filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in the West Indies (where she took a beach break in April), she's clearly maintained her fit figure.
"I'm actually very self-conscious," model Naomi Campbell has said. "For years I wore a cardigan over tight jeans." Hard to believe, judging by Campbell's confidence in a barely-there bathing suit during a recent photo shoot in Brazil. Campbell, 36, has worked with trainer David Kirsch, who prescribes squats, side kicks and power yoga for his clients.
