Spice Girls Grow Up

The Spice Girls — recently voted worst band of 1999 in a British magazine poll of fickle young pop fans — squashed persistent rumors of a break-up and announced on Thursday that they will tour and produce a new album in 2000. Britain’s pop music sensations of the 1990s are currently performing their first live shows in over a year on a mini-tour of England. Dec. 17 they will also be unveiled at Madame Tussaud’s Rock Circus, a waxworks in London. They will be the first band since the Beatles to be so immortalized. “We’ve got our third album out next year and we’re going to play again for our fans,” Reuters quoted Scary Spice Melanie B as saying. Baby Spice Emma Bunton added: “We’ve all done solo projects but it’s exciting now we’re the Spice Girls again. It’s woman power now, not girl power.”
