Smigel Gets His Own Show
Fans of Triumph, the Insult Dog on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” can rejoice. The hand and mouth behind the puppet, Robert Smigel, is getting his own half-hour Comedy Central show, to debut later this year. The Hollywood Reporter says that the deal for Smigel is a lot like the one that the cable network made with “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and quotes a Comedy Central honcho as saying he hopes that Smigel pushes the boundaries of comedy in the same manner. The new, as-yet unnamed show will feature such existing Smigel pieces from “Saturday Night Live” as “The Ambiguously Gay Duo” and “The Ex Presidents.” As for Triumph, he may or may not come along. At the moment he’s fighting a lawsuit brought against him by Pets.com, which alleges that Triumph defamed its Sock Puppet.
