Maddie Ziegler Returns in Performance Video for Sia's New Single 'Cheap Thrills' (Which She Originally Wrote for Rihanna!)
Sia originally wrote "Cheap Thrills" for Rihanna before releasing it on her own This Is Acting album
The Aussie pop star, 40, released the performance video for her new single “Cheap Thrills” on Monday, and it features her longtime collaborator, 13-year-old former Dance Moms breakout Ziegler, flaunting her fancy footwork front and center.
Ziegler – who will be a judge on the forthcoming So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation – first donned a similar faux bob and nude leotard when she starred in Sia’s smash “Chandelier” video in 2014, then again in 2015’s follow-up “Elastic Heart” clip, which costarred Shia LaBeouf.
“Cheap Thrills” – a buoyant, Caribbean-tinged dancehall banger – is the latest single off Sia’s latest LP, This Is Acting, a concept album of songs she initially wrote for other artists, from Beyoncé to Adele.
“I realized just as soon as I was cutting it that it sounded a little bit too Brit-pop for her. It’s more Icona Pop. We did actually send it to her, but they passed on it, and then I just couldn’t stop listening to it in the car,” she told the music mag. “I wouldn’t normally be just jamming out to my own tunes. There’s something really uplifting about it that put me in a good mood … It felt very summer and fun, and I was like, ‘I’ll put that on there.'”
