David Beckham may be PEOPLE’s newest Sexiest Man Alive, but he’s already got a young upstart to who is vying to take his place – Brooklyn Beckham.

According to the 40-year-old soccer stud, his three sons – Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, and Cruz, 10 – weren’t that impressed when he told him that he’d won the coveted title.

“We kind of laughed about it with the boys and the boys kind of laughed at me and said, ‘Really?! Sexiest man alive? Really?” says Beckham. “My oldest son, Brooklyn was the one who was like, ‘Are you sure it’s not me that’s meant to be there today?’ ”

Brooklyn, whose friendship with Chloë Grace Moretz sparked romance rumors last year, may already be following in his dad’s footsteps. The teen joined his father on the field on Saturday when they played a charity soccer match for UNICEF and he’s been showing off the fruits of his fitness regimen on Instagram.

Still, teens can still get embarrassed by their dad – even when he’s the Sexiest Man Alive.

“When David takes Brooklyn to school, Brooklyn makes him drop him down at the end of the street, because he thinks it’s embarrassing,” mom Victoria Beckham tells PEOPLE. “I’m like, if you’re embarrassed by your dad and he’s David Beckham, what chance does any other father at the school have?”
