At least Serena Williams had the support of the crowd – and close companions like Drake – cheering her on.

After a nerve racking faceoff between Roberta Vinci of Italy – a 300-1 underdog – on Friday, Williams ultimately lost the U.S. Open semifinals match, ending her bid for a historic Grand Slam.

Drake – who was pictured leaving the game with Williams – was at the edge of his seat throughout the game, cheering on his rumored girlfriend.

The pair have been spending quality time together, including, most recently, a cozy August dinner date at an upscale restaurant in Cincinnati. Williams was in town to compete at the Western & Southern Open (and Drake was cheering her on in the stands.)

When Williams was asked if Drake was her “lucky charm” at a July 9 press conference (attended by the rapper), she called him her friend.
