When Taylor Swift brought out her bff Selena Gomez on stage during her last 1989 tour stop at the Staples Center, #Taylena fans freaked out on social media.

The last time the duo were on stage together was at Swift’s New York City tour stop during her Speak Now World Tour in 2011.

“I had never seen the show,” Gomez, who performed her hit “Good for You” with Swift, tells PEOPLE. “It was incredible. Obviously I’ve seen every tour she’s done, but this one was insane.”

Swift and Gomez are often spotted at awards shows together dancing in the front row. “I’m super stoked for her,” says Gomez. “We’re in such different places in our lives, and we’ve been so consistent and we’ve stayed together.”

In an industry where entertainers are often pitted against each other, “it’s very rare to have that [kind of friendship],” says the actress. “I’m just so thankful for her.”

The Hotel Transylvania 2 star – who’s releasing her album Revival Oct. 9 – is also coming into her own.

“I feel really good about myself,” she says. “I’m just excited to enjoy my 20’s the right way.”

These days, a perfect night for Gomez includes getting dressed up with her girlfriends and going out “dancing and vegging out on food afterwards.”
