Selena Gomez 'Heartbroken' by the Loss of Her Friend Christina Grimmie
On Saturday, Gomez took to Twitter to share her love for Grimmie. The star posted a black and white photo of herself with the singer and captioned it, “My heart is absolutely broken. I miss you Christina.”
The two met after Gomez’s stepfather Brian Teefey discovered Grimmie, 22, on YouTube and later served as her longtime manager.
“I’m so blessed that they’re in my life,” Grimmie said of Gomez and her family in an interview with Seventeen in 2011. “They’re literally like a family – Selena has been so encouraging ever since we got hooked up. It’s crazy! It’s very much a fairy tale.”
Teefey echoed similar sentiments following news of the singer’s death.
“Words cannot begin to describe the pain I am feeling,” he told PEOPLE in a statement on Saturday. “I learned this business through the eyes of a father and Christina was like a second daughter to me.”
Grimmie was fatally shot late Friday after opening for pop-rock band Before You Exit at the Plaza Live. At a press conference Saturday morning, Orlando police chief John Mina said Grimmie was possibly shot by a deranged fan, who then took his own life after being tackled by Grimmie’s brother, Mark. An investigation is still ongoing.
