At 109 years old, Jessie Gallan says she has never married because men are more trouble than they're worth
Have a bowl of porridge a day and keep the men away, that’s Jessie Gallan’s secret to a long life.
On Jan 2., Gallan turned 109, making her the oldest living woman in Scotland, according to Business Insider.
The lively and laughing senior starts every morning with a bowl of porridge and makes sure to stay active by attending weekly exercise classes, socializing with her many friends, knitting and not sweating the small stuff.
“If I am the oldest person, that’s all right,” the centenarian said in a video recorded around her 108th birthday. “I can’t help it.”
Raised in a cramped two-room farm cottage with her five siblings, the 109-year-old went on to dedicate her time to the service sector and filling her days with excitement. This left little room for the distraction of men.
“My secret to a long life has been staying away from men. They’re just more trouble than they’re worth,” Gallan told The Times. “I also made sure that I got plenty of exercise, [I eat] a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning, and have never gotten married.”
Today, this independent woman can look back on her many busy years with satisfaction.
“I’ve never had to depend on anybody,” Gallan said. “I’ve had my ups and downs maybe, but I’m fine.”
