Working on ABC’s Scandal, Bellamy Young knows a thing or two about sexy.

And as the host of PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive 2015 special (airing Wednesday on Lifetime), the actress, 45, has spent some time reflecting on the past 30 years of sexy covers.

“I’ve loved this magazine cover event since it started back in the ’80s,” Young tells PEOPLE.

Here, Young reveals who her favorite covermen (and one coverwoman) have been over the years:

Her Man of the ’80s

“I was in high school back then. And for me, back in those days, it was Sean Connery all the time. That sexy, little lisp. I could listen to him talk all night long,” Young says of the 1989 honoree.

The College Years

“When I was in college [at Yale] in the ’90s…I remember when they first put a couple on the cover [in 1993]. It was Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford and they were so dreamy,” Young says of the only couple to ever grace the cover of the issue. “It was…so romantic…It was love.”

Her New York State of Mind

“When I got out of college and was I living in New York in the 2000s it was Clooney all the time, little George Clooney. Two-time coverman,” Young says of the 1997 and 2006 honoree. “Always deserved.”

Her Music Man

“When I’ve been out here in L.A. in the new millennium, you know, I’m a huge fan of The Voice, so when PEOPLE branched out from, you know, usually giving an actor the tile and gave it to Adam Levine [in 2013], I was all about it,” says Young.

Young hosts PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive 2015 special Wednesday (9 p.m. ET) on Lifetime.
