Sarah Michelle Gellar: Freddie Prinze Jr. Is Doing 'Fine' After Spinal Surgery
"He did have very serious surgery, there's no question," the actress says
PEOPLE caught up with Sarah Michelle Gellar at the 4th annual Santa’s Secret Workshop at the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood on Saturday, and the star said there’s no need to worry about her husband, who’s been posting about his recovery on Twitter.
“You mean ‘learning how to walk’? I can’t even,” Gellar, 37, replied when asked about Prinze’s progress. “I’m not joking, our mail woman – God bless her heart – was like, ‘I prayed for you, Freddie, and it worked, you’re walking.’ ”
Talk of Prinze, 38, “learning to walk again” stems from his Nov. 26 Tweet playfully comparing the process to “learning jiu-jitsu.”
“He’s fine,” Gellar told reporters. “He did have very serious surgery, there’s no question, but his learning how to walk again has been greatly exaggerated.”
And is the dad of two taking advantage of that as she helps him heal?
“I plead the fifth,” she said, laughing and nodding her head.
As for the rest of their family, Gellar says daughter Charlotte, 5, and son Rocky, 2, are really getting into the holiday spirit this year by donating food to and raising money for those in need.
“They’re getting to the age where they understand the holidays isn’t just about getting presents,” the mom of two said. “It’s so much about giving back and being appreciative for what they can do.”
