Sarah Jessica Parker Parts Ways with Gap

The Sex star, 40, is replaced in the retailer's ads with singer Joss Stone, 17

Sarah Jessica Parker’s being given a really rotten 40th birthday present: The Gap is dropping her from its advertising campaign, replacing her with British soul singer Joss Stone, who is 17.

Parker’s actual natal day is Friday.

“While Gap will always seek partnerships with celebrities, musicians and rising stars, we don’t have any future plans to sign a single person to a multi-season deal like the unique and special relationship we enjoyed with Sarah Jessica,” the company said in a statement earlier this week.

Parker’s statement calls the decision mutual, though The Washington Post reports that she is not pleased.

Amid loud drum beating, the San Francisco-based clothing company heralded Parker’s coming onboard in mid-2004, shortly after she wrapped up her HBO hit Sex and the City. Gap said Parker would be its rep for three seasons (from fall 2004 to spring ’05) and there were reports that she’d be paid $38 million, or, as calculated by The Post: about $3 million a month or $104,109 a day – “not that she worked every day,” says the paper.

As for her replacement, Stone was born in Devon, England, and earned three Grammy Award nominations, including one for best new artist, for her albums last year The Soul Sessions and Mind, Body & Soul, reports Reuters.

The Post reports that, for this summer, Stone will push Gap white denims.
