A Tale of Two National Anthems: See Who Rocked (and Who Flubbed) the Star Spangled Banner Over the Weekend
Both Carlos Santana and Minnie Driver performed at separate sporting events
Not all National Anthem performances are created equal.
Carlos Santana knocked (or should we say rocked) it out of the park when he performed an instrumental version of the Star Spangled Banner before Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday. The 67-year-old musician was joined by his drummer wife Cindy Blackman, who displayed her amazing skills in the unconventional performance.
While Santana and Blackman earned rave reviews, the same could not be said for actress Minnie Driver when she sang the classic song at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. While the 45-year-old star hit all the right notes, she fumbled a few of the words.
“Gosh, I sang ‘hailed’ instead of ‘watched’ during the Nat Anthem last night. What can I say? I am an imperfect human being. I think that’s ok,” she Tweeted on Sunday.
Then again, Driver is English, so it makes sense that the words to America’s anthem may not come naturally to her. (Mexico-born Santana, meanwhile, smartly opted to forgo words all together.)
