It was 20 years ago on Tuesday that the current World’s Most Beautiful cover star Sandra Bullock‘s romantic comedy While You Were Sleeping first hit theaters.

The film had Bullock playing Lucy, a lonely toll collector whose crush on a handsome commuter (Peter Gallagher) takes a turn when he falls into a coma. A case of mistaken identity ends up making his family think she’s his fiancée, but she ends up falling for his brother (Bill Pullman).

In case you can’t quite imagine Bullock playing a lonely toll collector, keep in mind that she had only a single hit under her belt in 1995 – Speed, which turned 20 in June. Thus, While You Were Sleeping was Bullock’s first romantic comedy as a known quantity.

This sweet little film ended up making $182 million worldwide. Clearly, Bullock’s relationship with the genre has been a profitable one.
