Why was Sandra Bullock just named PEOPLE’s World’s Most Beautiful Woman?

Because “this woman just gets better and better all the time,” Jess Cagle, PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly‘s Editorial Director, explained on Good Morning America Wednesday as the hosts nodded in agreement.

“She’s defined herself the way she wants to live it,” he said of the 50-year-old, after ticking off a list of accomplishments that include being the most bankable star in Hollywood and raising a 5-year-son.

“She’s a real role model,” he added. “Very inspiring.”

Another star beautiful inside and out? Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, who spoke to the Today show about posing for PEOPLE’s special issue sans makeup.

“It made me feel very vulnerable, and I think it was an exercise in self-acceptance without the security blanket of hair and makeup and lighting,” she said.

“I think it was important for me to do because I think my real strength does come not from my beauty, but from my intellect,” she added.
