PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive says old friends might think the title is "a mistake"

The abs, the smile, the sense of humor – everything about Ryan Reynolds, PEOPLE’s newly crowned Sexiest Man Alive is, well, sexy. But the Green Lantern star says some friends from his past might find the title to be a bit misleading.

“I was such a goofball [growing up],” the actor tells PEOPLE in the clip above. “I went through puberty in my early 20s. That’s a big part of the problem. I looked like sort of a very athletic girl up until I was about 21.”

Though it’s hard to believe the handsome star ever had an awkward phase, he says he thinks “there are a few people that might think this [title] is a mistake.” Well, we beg to differ!

And there is plenty more of this exclusive on-camera interview with Reynolds tonight on 25 Years of Sexy. The one-hour special, hosted by Kim Kardashian, celebrates the 25th anniversary of the franchise, and features a behind-the-scenes look at making the issue as well as interviews with other former sexiest men alive winners. It airs at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
