Sure, it’s hard to believe that Ryan Phillippe is 40, but would you believe that some people think he’s half that age?

The star of ABC’s Secrets and Lies revealed in an interview with Variety on Friday that he still gets carded “constantly” in bars and restaurants by people who think he’s under the age of 21.

“My daughter hates it,” he says, referring to Ava, 15, whose mom is his ex-wife, Reese Witherspoon. “Because sometimes people have thought I’m her brother, and she’s freaked out by that.”

The actor was only a handful of years older than Ava when he shot to fame in I Know What You Did Last Summer, and admits his life changed following the release of that film in 1997, and Cruel Intentions (which paired him with Witherspoon) two years later.

“That was sort of the end of my innocence,” he says of his sex symbol status after those films came out. “That was like the end of my youth, because I went straight into marriage and kids.”
