Tom Cruise proved a good sport and showed up in a taped segment to cap Rosie O’Donnell’s six years as host of “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” in a segment that aired Wednesday. Surrounded by members of her staff just as the hour-long finale was coming to a close, O’Donnell, 40, quipped, “I didn’t know how to end the show and I was thinking, ‘Who would be the right guy?’ Funny, this is who came to mind.” And on came a tape showing Cruise, 39, cruising along the grass with a lawn mower before turning to the camera and proffering a drink. “Rosie, I cut your lawn,” Cruise said. “Here’s your lemonade.” As noted by the Associated Press, his gesture and remark were sly references to O’Donnell’s having told ABC interviewer Diane Sawyer in March that her oft-repeated, so-called crush on Cruise was not necessarily sexual. “I never once said I want him naked in a bed doing the nasty,” said Rosie. “I want him to mow my lawn and get me a lemonade.” O’Donnell, who is leaving the show to devote more time to her family — her companion of 4 1/2 years, Kelli Carpenter, 34, is pregnant — and to other projects, said on the finale, “Can you believe it’s the last day? I’m sort of, like, in severe denial.”
