Rosie on the Move

Now that she’s invested $290,000 on renovations, Rosie O’Donnell is looking to move out of the mansion known as “Pretty Penny.” A publicist for Rosie says that the talk-show host is looking for more privacy and security than the 22-room, 150-year-old house (which sits on a main road in Nyack, N.Y., a suburb of New York City) can provide. The house’s previous occupants, actress Helen Hayes and her husband, playwright Charles MacArthur, bought the house in 1931. Hayes said its name came from a friend’s remark: “This place must have cost a pretty penny.” Rosie bought the place in 1996 for $770,000. The new listing price? $2.75 million.
