Rosie: Moving to Miami

Rosie O’Donnell told a Miami Beach crowd Monday night that she will sell her New York-area house and move to Florida next year when her TV contract expires, reports PEOPLE. Speaking at “Flamingos in Paradise,” a public art event that benefited charities such as CHARLEE Homes for Children (for which Rosie is national spokeswoman), O’Donnell, 39, said, “On May 22, 2002, when the contract for my TV show ends, I will be a full-time Miami resident.” The talk show hostess and magazine publisher (who apparently will run her publishing empire while living in the Sunshine State), already owns a home on an exclusive island in Biscayne Bay between the Miami mainland and Miami Beach, where her neighbors are Gloria Estefan and Julio Iglesias. She also described her involvement with CHARLEE (an acronym for children have all rights — legal, educational and emotional) and the reason for her Monday appearance at the benefit. “We need money,” she explained. “Florida is very, very under-funded when it comes to children in need. This is our chance to give kids safety, security, love and a chance for a better future.”
