Rebecca Romijn-Stamos maintained a low profile at Monday’s Los Angeles premiere of her new movie, “The Punisher,” at the Cinerama Dome.

Earlier that day, a publicist for Romijn-Stamos, 31, and her husband of five years, actor John Stamos, 40, announced that the couple had parted and were not making any comments about the breakup, which was said to “amicable.”

“I’m a little surprised,” John Travolta, 50, who costars with Romijn-Stamos, told USA Today at the premiere. “But you can’t judge until you know the situation. … I’ve known John for a few years, but I just met (Rebecca) for the first time on this film.”

Throughout the premiere, bodyguards surrounded Romijn-Stamos, who, according to her publicist, will keep her married name for the time being. Accompanied by girlfriends, the actress was reportedly the last to arrive at the screening and the first to leave the party afterward.

According to USA Today, she looked happy and smiling on the red carpet, and was carefully protected from anyone but select cast members while the movie rolled.

“I just said to her, ‘Are you all right?’ ” said costar Samantha Mathis, 33, who had only learned the news of Rebecca’s split on her way to the movie in her limo. “And she said, ‘It’s a weird night.’ I mean, what do you say?”

The USA Today report also speculates that the Stamoses broke up because he wanted to begin a family, and she didn’t.
