Ricky Martin's Flying

This week’s TIME Magazine cover boy, Ricky Martin, is riding the frenzy over his hit song “Livin’ la Vida Loca.” “I’m flying. I’m flying,” he tells the magazine. His self-titled debut album in English follows a string of successful Spanish-language albums, which in turn followed his run in the youth group Menudo. Despite the instant success of his new album, Martin, 27, still gets the same question: Why cross over? “A lot of people say, ‘Well, why English, why do you want to do it in the States?'” Martin said. “It’s all about communication. The last album (‘Vuelve’) did really good (sic), to be quite honest — I want to be humble about this — all over the world. One of the songs was No. 1 in 22 countries. And it was in Spanish. So I didn’t have to go to English to make it.”
