Regis Rings Rosie

Rosie O’Donnell got her final answer. It was yes. After waging a campaign on her talk show to be a “phone friend” on ABC’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” Rosie will be a contestant’s “lifeline” to help answer a question on an episode that will air Sunday. No word on what the question was or if Rosie got it right. On her show Wednesday, Rosie bragged about being called by “Millionaire” host Regis Philbin on Tuesday night, when the segment was taped. “Let me just say I was nervous,” she told her guest, Matt Lauer. O’Donnell’s campaign to be a lifeline wasn’t entirely cordial, however. The New York Post, calling Rosie a “phone-friend phony,” reported this week that several “Millionaire” contestants had asked for her help — only she never replied. A Rosie spokesperson said O’Donnell had gotten so many requests that she’d been unable to respond to them all.

  • Two things “Millionaire” fans can look forward to: a $29.95 home board version set to bow soon at toy stores, and a celebrity episode this spring. Among those the producers have approached is comic Dana Carvey who, when he was on “Saturday Night Live,” used to do a mean imitation of Regis.
