You Just Can't Stop Reese Right Now
SHE'S GETTING TIGHT WITH SOFIA VERGARA
And you know Vergara is a fun friend to have. The pair bonded last year while shooting an action comedy about a police officer and the glam wife of a drug dealer (can you guess who played who?) and they soon took their relationship to the next level: that next level being social media (see: here and here).
SHE'S LIVING IT UP
HER WILD PERFORMANCE EARNED HER AN OSCAR NOD
This is not your light-and-frothy rom-com Reese. The actress's performance in Wild was rightfully recognized by the Academy with an Oscar nomination. The film is an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's bestselling book about a woman hiking the Pacific Crest Trail as she reflects on the death of her mom and her failed marriage. "It's a new Reese," director Jean-Marc Vallée told Entertainment Weekly.
PLUS SHE GOT GOLDEN GLOBE AND SAG NOMINATIONS
Although Julianne Moore ultimately took home the best actress Golden Globe Award, Witherspoon could still add to her collection of accolades later this month at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
SHE WENT CAROLING WITH FALLON
During an appearance on The Tonight Show, she and Jimmy sang Silent Night, replacing words with random phrases. Her singing skills should come as no surprise – she did win an Oscar for playing famous crooner June Carter.
SHE COVERED VOGUE
In her interview, Witherspoon talks about trying to recalibrate her image as someone who can be more than just a bubblegum Elle Woods type, someone who's complex. A slew of stunning photos (not to mention quotes like this: "Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors, but I think there's a general sense now that I've lived a pretty textured life.") should convince any of the doubters.
SHE COVERED A WHOLE LOTTA MAGAZINES
HER (OTHER) FILM RAKED IN SERIOUS CASH
If you saw and loved Gone Girl, you have Witherspoon in part to thank for that. She was the driving force in turning the novel into a movie (she was also a co-producer). And while we would have been impressed if the film she helped create was a quiet little indie darling, the result was a blockbuster (it's grossed more than $126 million domestically) starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, seen here posing with Witherspoon.
SHE'S KILLING IT IN THE STYLE DEPARTMENT
Promoting two movies means spending a lot of time on red carpets. The star has always had on-point fashion sense, but when she stepped out at the at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 8 in this gorgeous glam Saint Laurent dress with a sequin bodice and cutout at the neckline, finished with black Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, plus a red lip and coordinating mani, we knew she was kicking off a seriously chic season.
NO, REALLY, KILLING IT
This is not your typical "America's Sweetheart" dress. To match her envelope-pushing performance in Wild, the actress gets equally uninhibited in a Stella McCartney gown featuring sexy cutouts, snakeskin-print panels and lace detailing at the movie's London Film Fesival premiere on Oct. 13.
OKAY, JUST ONE MORE DRESS THEN WE'RE DONE
Her style streak continues: A week later at the American Cinematheque Award in L.A. on Oct. 21, Witherspoon selects a floral Prabal Gurung mermaid-silhouette dress, adding retro waves that feel perfectly Veronica Lake.
EDIE PARKER DESIGNED A CUSTOM CLUTCH FOR HER
Owning one of these of-the-moment $1,800 evening bags: amazing. Owning one that the designer made specially for you: amazing-er. Owning one that the designer made for you and it's emblazoned with your hip-hop name, Lil' Spoon: amazing-est.
