Rebel Wilson has a not-so-rebellious secret. Back when she was starting out as a comedian in Australia, “I went to law school at the same time,” says the actress, 27.

“I didn’t have an opportunity to practice, but you never know,” she says with a laugh. “One day, if things don’t work out, I might be a barrister!” So far, the courtrooms are safe. Since making a splash as Kristen Wiig’s ditzy roommate in Bridesmaids in 2011, Wilson has been in high demand for off-kilter roles.

Next up she’ll host the MTV Movie Awards on April 14 and star with Mark Wahlberg in Pain & Gain, out April 26.

Getting recognized on the street “is the weirdest thing,” says Wilson, who lives in L.A. with Bridesmaids costar Matt Lucas as her (platonic) roommate. But with the recognition, Wilson says, comes a bit of responsibility.

“Even when I’m playing someone named Fat Amy” – her character in last fall’s sleeper hit Pitch Perfect – “I’m all about confidence and attitude.”
