Honestly, we were pulling for "Monday"

Did you guess that Rebecca Black would be making a triumphant return to music after the tremendous fallout from “Friday?” Did you guess that she would do it with a song called “Saturday?”

No? Well, you should’ve. Because that’s just what’s happening.

First off: “Saturday” is light-years better than “Friday.” (Really, though, how could it not be?) So it’s got that going for it, which is nice.

It is, however, filled with winking callbacks to “Friday,” including the image of Black eating cereal out of a bowl marked “Gotta have my bowl.” And at one point, Black and her nonthreatening, generically “hip”-looking cohorts draw “so excited” in the sand on a beach, so it doesn’t exactly look like she’s trying too hard to escape “Friday.”

Your mileage with “Saturday” may vary. It’s a pretty generic pop song, and the video’s capped with a heavily spotlit party scene that looks like every heavily spotlit party scene in pop music and film from the past four years. It also – of course – features someone twerking, a girl who vaguely resembles Lady Gaga and a bunch of people wearing sunglasses indoors.

But we’d be remiss in our duties if we didn’t share it with you. What do you think about Rebecca’s return to calendar-based dance-pop?
