Ramseys: Lie Detector?

Boulder, Colo., Police Chief Mark Beckner may be ready to make John and Patsy Ramsey put their money where their mouths are. The Ramseys spoke to Barbara Walters on “20/20” in an interview that aired Friday night and said that they would be willing to submit to lie detector tests. (Patsy Ramsey also noted that the findings of such tests have never been considered admissible evidence in a court of law.) The couple’s appearance was in connection with the publication of their new book, “The Death of Innocence,” about the still-unsolved 1996 murder of their 6-year-old daughter JonBenet. The parents have remained under a cloud of suspicion by the public and law authorities ever since news of the brutal killing first broke. After a 13-month investigation, a grand jury was unable to file any charges in the case. As Police Chief Beckner told Denver’s Rocky Mountain News about the couple’s lie-detector statement, “If they are serious this time, sure, we’d be interested.”
