Congratulations to the residents and business owners of Raleigh, North Carolina – the Southern state capital has been named the No. 1 American city for jobs.

According to a report published Tuesday by employment website Glassdoor, Raleigh beat out all other cities with the overall best combination of job openings (24,146), population (1.2 million), median base salary ($50,950) and median home value ($198,400).

According to the study, Raleigh also scored a 3.3 out of a possible 5 for job satisfaction – a metric determined by an average of at least 1,000 surveys by area employees about how much they like their jobs.

“Raleigh has long held a reputation for tech companies looking to flee the expensive and congested Northeast corridor,” the report noted. “Couple this with Raleigh’s walkable neighborhoods and affordable homes, it s no surprise that Raleigh stands out as the best city for jobs.”
