Punxsutawney Phil of Pennsylvania may be the more famous weather-hog, but did you know that New York’s Staten Island has its own? His name is Staten Island Chuck, and this year, he made waves for a daring leap he took out of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s arms (after he saw his shadow and thereby signed us all up for six more weeks of winter).
Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow as well. But don’t worry: Going back to 1889, Phil’s only got a 39 percent accuracy rate.
Of course, that statistic may be cold comfort for you this morning (pun fully intended). It seems as if Chuck and Phil were right after all. Curse those furry prognosticators tonight as you curl up and re-watch Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell in Groundhog Day to forget about six more weeks of polar vortexes.
