The iconic musician was cremated following the completion of an autopsy
The family was photographed leaving with Prince’s nephew carrying a bundle – presumably an urn – under a jacket.
Prince’s publicist confirmed that the singer’s body had been cremated on Saturday – the same day a private memorial was held for friends and family.
“A few hours ago, Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye,” the rep said in a statement to PEOPLE. “Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final storage will remain private. We ask for your blessings and prayers of comfort for his family and close friends at this time. The cause of death remains unknown and it will be at least four weeks before we receive the results of the autopsy. An announcement will be made at a future date for a musical celebration.”
Prince died on Thursday at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. The “Purple Rain” singer had reportedly been battling flu-like symptoms for several weeks, likely related to an “ongoing illness” that had weakened his immune system, a source previously told PEOPLE.
An autopsy was completed before his cremation, but Prince’s cause of death has not yet been revealed. The medical examiner’s office said the autopsy results may take several days and the full toxicology report several weeks.
After news of her brother’s death broke, Tyka reportedly greeted fans outside of Paisley Park, saying, “He loved all of you.”
She added on what appears to be her Facebook, “Thank U 4 Loving My Brother! He LOVED Playing His Music & I KNOW He Loved U 2.”
