Cupid has been hard at work on the campaign trail!

From Hillary and Bill Clinton, to Donald and Melania Trump, to Bernie and Jane Sanders, presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle have been showing off their love for each other in sweet photos as they campaign for the White House.

Bernie and Jane recently shared their romantic wedding proposal story with PEOPLE.

The Vermont senator pulled out all the stops because “when you do a proposal, it’s a one-time thing. It has to be done with ambiance. Proper moment, proper lighting. Right? I’ll let Jane tell you the rest of the story.”

Continued Jane: “We were on a break and he was trying to get me back and I said, ‘No. I want to get married and you don’t.’ We finished our ice cream sundae at Friendly’s and we walked out to the parking lot and he said, ‘You want to get married?’ ”

“I said, ‘You know I do. Let’s not talk about this again.’ ”

“I wasn’t getting it, so he took me by the shoulders and said, ‘Will. You. Marry. Me.’ And I said, ‘When?’ ”

More than 27 years later, their love is alive and well – and hitting the campaign trail.

Heidi dished about Ted’s softer side in an interview with CNN last month. “I want to tell the American people who Ted is. A person who, when I’m really busy running around the house the other day to pack, when he had a lot more on his plate, sat down and packed my suitcase for me.”

“A person who got home from the campaign trail after three weeks of being on the trail who met me at a restaurant for dinner at 11 p.m. because that’s where I wanted to go, and got there early with a bouquet of flowers.”

Melania has also been showing her support for husband Donald on the campaign trail:

When asked to describe the moment he met Melania and the moment he fell in love with her, Trump told PEOPLE in September 2015, “It may have been the same moment.”

Marco Rubio and wife Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio are all smiles when they’re by each other’s side:

Rubio remembers the couple’s first date (they went to the movies to see Robin Hood) in his memoir An American Son: “The movie’s theme song was by Bryan Adams,” he wrote. “To this day, whenever I hear the song, I remember the night I started to fall in love with Jeanette Dousdebes.”

When John Kasich first met his wife, Karen Waldbillig Kasich, he told his chief of staff at the time: “I’ve just seen the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

Ben Carson‘s wife, Candy Carson, has supported him every step of the way over the years. That includes his presidential campaign – although she’s admitted it’s been difficult for her. “This is not something that I was looking to do,” she told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly. “After giving up my husband for 40 years to medicine, I really don’t want to give him up to our country.”

Jeb has made wife Columba Bush a part of his campaign. The two co-starred in a bilingual ad declaring Hispanics “an integral part of the American dream.”

“My life can be defined in one real, powerful way, which is B.C. and A.C.: Before Columba and After Columba,” Bush told an audience last year. “I fell madly in love with her – literally love at first sight. Whatever I was doing beforehand, I vaguely remember. But my life got really organized after that.”
