'Practice' Gets Hanson to Carnegie Hall
Hanson brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac were virtually unavoidable during the summer of 1997, thanks to their infectious pop single, “MMMBop.” But after some growing pains — both pubescent and professional — the boys-to-men are now back, and ready for Carnegie Hall.
The trio (who are now 22, 20 and 17, respectively) is still together and making music, having been on a three-month international acoustic tour to support the release of their new CD, “Underneath.”
Still sporting their trademark blond hair (though cut shorter and growing darker), the Hanson brothers recently spoke to PEOPLE about their final performance Wednesday at New York’s famed music venue. Middle brother Taylor also talked about the joys of marriage and fatherhood –with his wife, Natalie, and 1-year-old son, Jordan Ezra.
So, how did you get to Carnegie Hall?
Zac: I think the answer for all of us is, practice, practice, practice.
Isaac: I think it’s a real cool opportunity that we feel lucky to have. We wanted to close this tour in a really special way and do something unique. New York has always been great to us.
Taylor: We tell friends we’re going to play Carnegie Hall, and it’s significant to musicians too. It’s like you made it.
Did two of you get married?
Isaac: I didn’t get married. No, no. Mr. Isaac is not married. I’m probably the furthest from it. I haven’t had a steady girlfriend in about two years.
Taylor, how is married life treating you?
Taylor: It’s inspiring. Having a baby is a life-changer. It gives you a whole other perspective on why you wake up every day. He’s a year today (Oct. 31, Halloween). He’s going to be a pumpkin. He’s got slightly red hair and a big head.
How are Zac and Isaac as uncles?
Taylor: They’re awesome as uncles. But they haven’t changed many diapers.
Zac, what about your girlfriend?
Zac: I will only say she is beautiful and amazing and I’m very lucky.
Taylor: Ah, he will get kudos.
Zac: If you put that in your article, I will get kudos.
