Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz aren’t the first celebrity parents to give their offspring a “place” name. Their newborn, Bronx, is the latest to join an esteemed group of star babies named after nations, states and cities, a baseball stadium and a posh hotel – some even commemorate the place of conception!

New York, after all, is a pretty popular choice of inspiration. The Beckhams have Brooklyn, named after the borough where their first child was conceived. King of Queens star Kevin James’s youngest daughter is Shea Joelle, after the home of the New York Mets.

Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler as well as Drea de Matteo and Shooter Jennings have daughters called Alabama. Melanie Griffith has a Dakota. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s first son is Kingston, as in Jamaica. Alec Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger named their daughter Ireland. Joey Lawrence has a Charleston (South Carolina).

Ron Howard and his wife, Cheryl, gave their three children middle names to indicate where they were conceived – Bryce Dallas Howard, and twins Paige Carlyle Howard and Jocelyn Carlyle Howard after the famous Manhattan hotel. Bill and Hillary Clinton have Chelsea, which the former President and First Lady have said comes from a line in a Joni Mitchell song about waking up to a “Chelsea morning.”

And, of course, the Hiltons have a Paris. Are all place names equally endearing? Let us know what you prefer.
